Welcome to the St. Rose of Lima Baptism Process! The entire Parish shares in the joy of your child, and is privileged to participate in bringing a new Christian into the Church.

The Baptism Process is coordinated by Deacon Joe and Julia Persinger.
Couples are encouraged to contact the Baptism Office when they are pregnant or have recently given birth.
Please contact Julia at 973-921-9867 or baptism@stroseshorthills.org.

Baptism Process: All couples presenting a child/children for Baptism are to have an Interview with a member of the Baptism Team and be registered at St. Rose. The Interview will be approximately 30 minutes. Each family will receive an information packet for the preparation of the Sacrament. Parents presenting their first child for Baptism will also attend a Baptism Preparation Class at St. Rose. The class will be approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. It will include the catechesis of the Sacrament, a video of a Baptism and some practical suggestions for creating a Catholic home. The Interview and Baptism Prep Class are normally held at the Dougherty Center (the red brick house directly across the street from the church, 61 Short Hills Ave.)
The Baptism Celebration: We have enhanced our Baptism Celebration. Our focus is the catechesis of parents in the Sacrament of Baptism. The Celebration is now in two stages once a month during a designated weekend.
|
The Initial Rites of the Ceremony will be Saturday at 12:30pm in St. Rose of Lima Church. The Ceremony will include Parents, Child/Children and Godparents. The Initial Rites of the Sacrament include the Naming, Signing and Anointing with the Oil of Catechumens. Your child will not wear (his/her) Baptismal Garment on Saturday. A simple outfit will be appropriate. The Oil of Catechumens is placed on the child's chest, so it is necessary for the outfit to be open at the neck area. The initial ceremony will be approximately 40 minutes.
The Celebration of the Ceremony will continue on Sunday at the 11:00 AM or 12:30 PM Mass. The child will not wear his/her Baptismal Garment to church but will come in a simple onezie or simple outfit. The child's Baptismal Garment will be placed on the child during Baptism.
