For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16

March 31, 2020

Dear Parishioners,
I pray you are well and getting through these stressful and challenging times.  It is unprecedented for all of us, and we need to look out for those who need assistance.  Please call or e-mail St. Rose if we can help in any way.

With sadness I have complied with Cardinal Tobin’s directive to keep the church locked.  This demonstrates the seriousness of what is before us.  Hopefully our compliance with social distancing will lessen the impact.  In the meantime, please continue to view our recorded Masses:

St. Rose of Lima Mass will be available for viewing options at home on:

Palm Sunday at 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM on these channels: Comcast 36, Verizon 33

Also be available on-demand on this website: https://httvonline.org/live/ (only at times noted above).

In addition, the Mass can be viewed anytime on YouTube:  www.youtube.com/user/stroseshorthills

I am sending you this email as we prepare for Easter in lieu of our normal mailing which is not feasible now.  St. Rose of Lima is in a very serious financial situation.  These weeks of cancelled Sunday Masses have left us with little by way of the financial resources we need to operate.  Easter is a time of tremendous generosity on your part.  I am grateful for the support you can give.

We will be utilizing eGiving as we are unable to mail Easter envelopes this year.  It is simple and straightforward.  You may contribute by credit or debit card or by electronic debit to your checking or savings account.  Simply enter your gift amount, your gift date and payment method.

I strongly urge you to consider using eGiving for regular Auto Offertory Sunday contributions.  Auto Offertory brings consistency to St. Rose's donations. While our revenues are often seasonal, our costs are not. During this unprecedented time, we continue to incur operating costs. St. Rose is always here for you.

I want to thank our parishioners who are currently contributing through our auto offertory program as well as those who continue to send in their donations by mail.  These donations and our regular envelope system make a real difference for St. Rose, especially now.  Your gift to St. Rose and any extra sacrifice during these difficult days are most needed and appreciated.

On a personal note I was in church today thinking of the vibrant beauty of this place and community.  The hymns, the music, the faces, the voices, the unspoken prayers, the pleas for health, the desire for normalcy, new babies baptized, couples married, sad funerals.  All of these are our life here.  At Easter we sometimes use a sign saying, “Come home to St. Rose for Easter.”  A parishioner recently said that this year we should bring St. Rose to our homes.  This is a difficult time and I know some families are struggling.  If there is a way we can help, we will.  Let us pray for each other.  I hope that soon we can open the doors and let Christ’s love bless us in our church as a parish family.

At Easter we look for the radiance of a new dawn to shine on us, shed its light on us and guide us.  May Christ be that blessing for you and your family this Easter.  I look forward to the new life of our parish as we rise from this Lent of distance and disruption.  It will be great to gather as a church and in church again. Jesus is risen.  We rejoice!

Easter Blessings,
Fr. Harahan
