Sacramental Formation: First Reconciliation and First Communion
Candidates for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are typically 7 years of age or older. All children must be baptized prior to receiving
First Reconciliation and First Communion.
First Reconciliation preparation focuses on helping the children appreciate that
God loves them and is always ready to forgive them. First Communion preparation draws the children into a fuller and more active participation in the life of the
Church. Through hands-on activities, being part of a community, praying with
others and attending Mass children continue learn of the importance of God as
they come to the Table for the first time.
Jesus Day is the final exciting step prior to First Communion. The children and parents gather to create their Communion Banners and family breakfast. Their banners are proudly displayed on their family pew the day of their Communion.

St. Rose of Lima Faith Formation Program is a restructured program that will be Family Based, centering around the weekly Sunday 9:30 AM. Mass is the first level of Catechesis and the best way to engage families back to the love of God by sharing in the Eucharist at Mass. Therefore, families are encouraged to participate in weekly Sunday Mass and be involved in teaching the faith to their children through this program.
Every Sunday, Kindergarten through 3rd graders will participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) program that meets in Ryan Hall at 9:30 AM while parents are at Mass in Church. Children will then reunite with their family in Church during the Presentation of the Gifts during Mass.
Once a month, 1st through 3rd graders will remain in Ryan Hall after CLOW ends for their grade specific lesson for additional 30 mins. This includes those students that need sacramental preparation for their First Reconciliation or First Eucharist.
